Anua niacinamide 10% + txa 4% serum 30ml

Niacinamide is the most useful single ingredient for skin in Kenya: it fades acne marks, calms oil and strengthens the skin barrier, and it rarely irritates. The hard part is choosing between the serums. Here is how the ones we stock compare, and who each one is for.

What niacinamide does, in plain words

Niacinamide is a form of vitamin B3. It slows down the transfer of pigment to the surface of the skin, which is why it helps dark marks fade. It also helps the skin make its own ceramides, which keeps the barrier strong, and it tends to reduce shine on oily skin. It works for most skin types, including sensitive skin, which is why it is often the first active ingredient dermatologists suggest.

On its own it works slowly. It works better paired with tranexamic acid (TXA), alpha arbutin or kojic acid for dark spots, and it only works at all if you wear sunscreen in the day.

The niacinamide and brightening serums we stock

1. Anua Niacinamide 10% + TXA 4% Serum: best all-rounder for dark marks

Ten percent niacinamide with four percent tranexamic acid, in a light, watery serum that layers under anything. This is the one we recommend most for acne marks and uneven tone on oily and combination skin. If your skin is very sensitive, start every other day for the first week. Anua Niacinamide 10% + TXA 4%

2. Medicube TXA Niacinamide Serum: best for stubborn patches

A higher-strength niacinamide with tranexamic acid, aimed at deeper, older marks. It suits skin that already tolerates actives well. Pair it with the matching TXA Niacinamide Capsule Cream if your skin is dry. Medicube TXA Niacinamide Serum

3. Medicube Kojic Acid Turmeric Niacinamide Serum: best for dull, uneven skin

Niacinamide with kojic acid and turmeric for overall brightness. Kojic acid can sting on sensitive skin, so patch test first and do not use it on the same night as strong exfoliating acids. Medicube Kojic Acid Turmeric Niacinamide Serum

4. Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum: the gentlest option

Alpha arbutin with rice, in a soft, slightly hydrating texture. A good pick for dry or sensitive skin, or anyone who found other brightening serums too strong. Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum

5. Numbuzin No.5 Vitamin Concentrated Serum: for glow

A brightening serum aimed at dullness more than specific marks. Choose it if your skin looks tired and uneven rather than spotty. Numbuzin No.5 Vitamin Concentrated Serum

Quick pick

  • Acne marks on oily skin: Anua Niacinamide 10% + TXA 4%
  • Old, stubborn patches: Medicube TXA Niacinamide
  • Dull, uneven tone: Medicube Kojic Acid Turmeric or Numbuzin No.5
  • Dry or sensitive skin: Beauty of Joseon Glow Deep Serum

How to use a niacinamide serum

  1. Cleanse, then apply 2 to 3 drops to dry skin, morning or night.
  2. Follow with moisturiser.
  3. In the morning, finish with an SPF 50 sunscreen. Without it, dark marks will not fade, whichever serum you buy. Our picks are in sunscreen for deeper skin tones.
  4. Use one brightening serum at a time, every day, for at least 8 weeks before you decide whether it works.

Questions we get asked

Can I use niacinamide with vitamin C?

Yes. The old warning that they cancel each other out came from lab tests that do not match how modern products are made. If your skin stings, use vitamin C in the morning and niacinamide at night.

Can I use niacinamide with retinol?

Yes, and niacinamide can make retinol easier to tolerate. Apply the niacinamide first, let it dry, then the retinol.

Is 10% niacinamide too strong?

For most people, no. If you notice redness or small bumps, drop to every other day, or choose a gentler serum like the Beauty of Joseon.

Will niacinamide lighten my skin?

No. It evens out marks and patches. It does not bleach or change your natural skin colour.

How do I know the serum is original?

Check the batch code and the packaging, and buy from a shop that can tell you where the stock comes from. We wrote a full guide: how to spot counterfeit skincare in Nairobi.
