A routine for healthy, growing natural hair
- Scalp care. Massage a scalp oil in 2 to 3 times a week: Mielle Rosemary Mint Oil or Jamaican Black Castor Oil. A clean, healthy scalp is where growth starts.
- Wash gently every 1 to 2 weeks with a moisturising shampoo.
- Deep condition every wash day, 20 to 30 minutes under a cap. Cantu Deep Treatment Masque is a staple.
- Leave-in, then seal: a leave-in conditioner on damp hair, then an oil or butter on the ends.
- Protect the ends: satin bonnet at night, low-manipulation styles, and do not keep protective styles in too long.
Why hair breaks
- Dryness: coily hair loses moisture fast.
- Tight styles and heavy extensions pulling on the edges.
- Rough detangling. Detangle wet, with conditioner, from ends to roots.
- Too much heat without protection.

Questions we get asked
Does rosemary oil really help hair grow?
Rosemary oil is popular for scalp care, and regular scalp massage helps. The biggest difference in length comes from stopping breakage, so pair it with moisture and gentle handling.
Jamaican black castor oil or rosemary oil?
Castor oil is thick and seals in moisture, good for edges and ends. Rosemary oil blends are lighter and made for the scalp. Many people use both.
How often should I oil my scalp?
2 to 3 times a week is enough. More builds up and can clog the scalp.
My edges are thinning. What helps?
Loosen tight styles first, then oil and massage the area gently. If thinning continues, see a doctor, as it can have medical causes.
