A routine for oily skin
- Cleanse with a gentle gel or foam, morning and night: CeraVe Foaming Cleanser or COSRX Low pH Good Morning. At night, a cleansing oil first removes sunscreen and grime; oil dissolves oil, and it will not make you oilier.
- Niacinamide serum to balance oil and make pores look smaller.
- A light gel cream. Skipping moisturiser makes skin produce more oil.
- A light sunscreen that dries matte or fresh, like the SKIN1004 Water-Fit Sun Serum.
Tips for Kenyan heat
- Blot during the day instead of washing your face again.
- Use a clay mask once or twice a week, not daily.
- Choose gels and fluids over thick creams in hot weather.
Questions we get asked
Should oily skin use a moisturiser?
Yes. A light gel moisturiser keeps the skin hydrated, which helps it make less oil.
Can I make my pores smaller?
Pore size is mostly genetic, but keeping pores clear with salicylic acid and using niacinamide makes them look noticeably smaller.
Oily skin with breakouts?
See acne, pimples and breakouts for a routine that treats both.
